Sree Bhagavathi temple Chaala

Root:-8kms south of Kannur.Two kms east of Thaazhechovva via chaalawest-Pazhssi canal road

Very ancie temple-The idol of Goddess Bhadrakali,at the rear of the present main shrine was first installed by Parashurama.As goddess was so fierce even birds could not fly in front of the idol.There fore Parashurama installed a shrine of goddess Durga of gentle nature in front of the SreeBhadrakaali shrine.After the 2nd Prathishta the fierceness of Bhadrakaali was reduced.

The temple is famous for Sathyam chollal(taking an oath in front of Bhadrakaali).Those who took false oath had to face severe consequences like vomiting blood or suffering from madness.In ancient times there was a custom of giving Pattumvalayum to distinguished Achaaryas at the front of the subshrine of srePerumthrukkovilappan.
 The structures thereon are sreekovil,namaskaaramandapam,chuttambalam
 with agramandapam,pradhishanavazhi,agrasaala,office subshrines,kooththambalam,gopuram,bhajanappura2wells,a tank.

Time of worship The temple is kept open on all days from 4am-11.30 am and 5.30-8.00 pm

Offerings 56 in number the most popular of them are pushpaanjali,rakthapushpaanjali,sarkkarappaayasam,naippaayasam are popular

Festivals POOROLSAVAM commences  8 days prior to pooram asteric in Meenam. The main item is Thitambunruththam On every day of the festival the thitambs are taken in procession to theAmma-paramb(ground of the mother of these Goddesses)The belief is that thes Goddesses visit their mother.

The persons who take the thitambsof both the Goddesses dance for about two hours and return to the temple.The other important days which are observed are Navaraathri,Tuesdays and Fridays.
